Fuel Injector Basics

At first glance, you might think that testing the injectors is difficult —since they're all located underneath the intake manifold plenum— on your 1998-1999 3.1L V6 Buick Century.

But the cool thing is that we don't need to remove the intake manifold plenum to begin our fuel injector diagnostic. Yep, we can test the injectors and perform several different checks through the 10-pin fuel injector wiring harness connector, which is located behind the alternator.

From this connector, we can access all six fuel injector circuits in one convenient and very accessible location.

Now, the thing to know and keep in mind is that the fuel injector harness side of the connector has male terminals. This is the side where our tests are going to be done. The engine wiring harness side, the one that connects to the PCM, has female terminals.
