EGR Valve Wiring Diagram (w/ Manual Transmission)
APPLIES TO: This exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve circuit wiring diagram applies to the following vehicles:
- 1.6L Honda Civic HX (D16Y5 VTEC-E with a manual transaxle): 1996, 1997, 1998.
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve on your Honda Civic HX, with a manual transmission, is an assembly that consist of three different components:
- EGR valve.
- Pintle solenoid.
- Pintle lift sensor.
The EGR pintle lift sensor is the component that gives the PCM feedback on the position of the EGR pintle as it's activated to open (or close) by the EGR pintle solenoid.
The green with black stripe (GRN/BLK) wire that connects (and feeds Ground) to the EGR valve lift sensor also connects to several other sensors/components. The above wiring diagram should help to identify these components.
The yellow with blue stripe (YEL/BLU) wire that connects (and supplies 5 Volts) to the EGR valve lift sensor also connects and feeds power to the TP sensor and fuel tank pressure sensor.
EGR Valve Wiring Diagram (w/ CVT Transmission)
APPLIES TO: This exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve circuit wiring diagram applies to the following vehicles:
- 1.6L Honda Civic HX (D16Y5 VTEC-E with a automatic CVT transaxle): 1996, 1997, 1998.
The EGR control solenoid is a separate component and not part of the EGR valve assembly as in the EGR valve used in the manual transmission equipped Honda Civic HX's.
Where To Buy The EGR Valve And Save
You can buy the EGR valve for your Honda Civic in just about any auto parts store but you'll spend a whole lot more because they mark it up quite a bit.
My suggestion is to buy it online or at least comparison shop to get an idea of how much it costs and how much you can save.

Not sure if the above EGR valve fits your particular Honda Civic? Don't worry, once you get to the site, they'll make sure it fits by asking you the particulars of your vehicle. If it doesn't fit, they'll find you the right one.
