MAP Sensor Wiring Diagram (PART 1)
NOTE: The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor wiring diagrams and info in this page apply only to 1996, 1997, 1998 Dodge Ram pickups, vans, and Dakota with a 3.9L, 5.2L or 5.9L gasoline engine (that use the 3 connector PCM).
The following tutorial may be of help when testing the actual MAP sensor (to see if it's creating a signal, or not, with a multimeter):
MAP Sensor Wiring Diagram (PART 2)
MAP Sensor Diagnostic/Troubleshooting Notes:
The PCM provides a sensor Ground on the BLK/LT BLU wire to a total of 11 components (including the MAP sensor).
If you're testing for a short to Ground, a short to power, or an open in this circuit, you'll need to unplug all of the sensors/components this sensor Ground wire connects to.
MAP Sensor Wiring Diagram (PART 3)
MAP Sensor Troubleshooting Notes:
The PCM provides 5 Volts DC on the PPL/WHT wire to a total of 4 components (including the MAP sensor).
If you're testing for a short to Ground, a short to power, or an open in this circuit, you'll need to unplug all of the sensors/components this 5 Volt supply wire connects to.
Where To Buy The MAP Sensor And Save
You can find the crankshaft position sensor in any auto parts store. But buying it online for a whole lot cheaper than somewhere local.
The following links will help you comparison shop for the MAP sensor:
Will the above MAP sensor fit your particular Dodge Ram pickup? Don't worry, once you get to the site they'll make sure it fits (by asking you the specifics of your particular vehicle). If it doesn't fit, they'll find you the right one.
