Cam Sensor Wiring Diagram (Part 1)
NOTE: The camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring diagrams and info in this page apply only to 1996, 1997, 1998 Dodge/Plymouth SOHC/DOHC 2.0L.
The PCM provides 8 Volts DC on the ORG wire to 3 sensors, which are the: camshaft position (CMP) sensor, the crankshaft position sensor and the vehicle speed sensor (on the transmission).
If you're testing for a short to ground, a short to power, or an open in this circuit... you'll need to unplug all 3 sensors to test this circuit.
Testing the cam sensor can be accurately tested with just a multimeter. The following tutorial may be of help when testing the actual crankshaft position sensor (to see if it's creating a signal, or not, with a multimeter):

Cam Sensor Troubleshooting Notes:
Sensor ground is provided by the BLK/LT BLU wire to about 9 different sensors. If you're testing for a short to ground, a short to power, or an open in this circuit... you'll need to unplug all the sensors this wire connects to (test this circuit).
Where To Buy The Cam Sensor And Save
You can buy the camshaft position (CMP) sensor for your Dodge/Plymouth Neon in just about any auto parts store... but you'll spend a whole lot more because they mark it up quite a bit.
My suggestion is to buy it online... or at least comparison shop to get an idea of how much it costs and how much you can save.

Not sure if the above cam sensor fits your particular Neon? Don't worry, once you get to the site, they'll make sure it fits by asking you the particulars of your vehicle. If it doesn't fit, they'll find you the right one.
